Hey, I’m planning on building & designing a container house myself. Where
would be the best land in the uk to buy. Becuase it seems that in cities
the land is as much as the cost of the final house built. Have you
insulated your house, maybe try painting the outside white.
Cant answer the first question properly – sorry. Roof is well insulated,
will insulate walls when I have finished fitting windows and doors, there
is thermal paint on the container, thermilate. – (tiny ceramic beads with
vacuum inside). Had to paint container green to begin with so as not to
offend locals but will be painting white or a less heat absorbent colour
when the structural work in complete.
My blog has an entry early about the windows. Its quite old and was only a
few stills and not video. I will be doing it again soonish. Quick answer.
Get a window, new or pre loved. Make a 50mm x 50mm galvanised box section
frame to fit around it. Test it to check the window fits in the frame. Tack
the frame to the wall with a welder and draw round it with indelible pen.
Remove frame and cut hole with angle grinder. Frame will now fit in hole if
you grind away the pen line. Stich weld the frame
The 50mm frame is wider than the 40mm warp on the wall. Stitch weld 5cm
welds every 30cm. Run silicon around the join, Paint with cold gal and then
paint of choice. Secure the window into the frame you KNOW fits perfectly.
Cheers Paul
Hello Malav Desai. Thinks have progressed a long way from this video. If
you look at the others on my channel you will see how far. I am English but
the containers are in the Australian bush. Insulation is still not sorted,
I have a little foil bubble wrap at the moment. I have 1 white container
that remains much cooler. I agree with your observations about land prices
and good luck with your build. Cheers Paul
Hi Paul Yes I have been following the build and not that its needed in your
outback climate, but have you heard of passive houses? Where they are like
a sealed up house and air flow is controlled, therefore a persons body heat
could actually warm a whole room.
good stuff.

I like this a lot. Thanks for doing the video. Your creativity and
ingenuity is far more valuable than a fancy home.
How did you attach the window to the steel wall?

MsGale10, The containers are in Australia. British planning permission I
think would not be overly helpful. (Your comment did not appear). Cheers
